Ultimate Praise for Carlsbad Eighth-Grader

Dietrich Von Kaenel is described as a dream student.

Responsible, respectful and all-around good citizen. That’s how Aviara Oaks Middle School teacher Michelle O’Neill describes one of her star students.

“Eighth-grader Dietrich Von Kaenel is an ‘A’ student who consistently puts forth his best effort and takes pride in all he does. His excellent grades are a result of his strong work ethic,” said O’Neill, who nominated the 14-year-old to be a Carlsbad Patch Whiz Kid.

Dietrich says he has wonderful teachers who help him excel in subjects such as science, which happens to be his favorite course.

“Science comes easy to me, and I really enjoy the labs we do in class,” he said.

When he’s not cracking the books, Dietrich can be found on the lacrosse field.  His love for the sport started at the end of fifth grade. He plays for the Carlsbad Youth Lacrosse League and his team just won its first game!

“I really enjoy the contact in lacrosse and the fast-paced style,” said Dietrich.

His key to awesomeness?

“I have a great routine with school and lacrosse that has helped me develop good study skills. The support from my family and teachers also helps a lot!”
