19 Carlsbad Residents Registered for Boston Marathon, Site of Fatal Explosions, Many Injuries

Sixteen Carlsbad residents are listed as having finished the race; three others have no finish times, but may not have participated in the race.

Nineteen people from Carlsbad are listed as taking part in the Boston Marathon on Monday. It's unclear how many were able to finish the race before explosions reportedly claimed the lives of three people and injured nearly 144 near the finish line.

According to the New York Times, "blasts took place about four hours after the start of the men’s race, which meant that there were still several thousand runners yet to finish the race."

CNN Reports, "One of the dead was an 8-year-old boy, according to a state law enforcement source. Hospitals reported at least 144 people are being treated, with at least 17 of them in critical condition and 25 in serious condition. At least eight of the patients are children. At least 10 people injured had limbs amputated, according to a terrorism expert briefed on the investigation."

Jayme Mechur, 31, of Carlsbad had her friend text her father, Ralph Mechur, who lives and works in Santa Monica, that she was unharmed. She was still a ways from the end of the race when the two blasts struck near the finish line, reported Santa Monica Patch. Her father is a school board member in Santa Monica.

A comment on Encinitas Patch reads, "Also, our dear friend, Steve Pulver (a Carlsbad resident) is safe and had crossed the finish line 10 minutes prior to the blasts. Praying for everyone!"
