Carlsbad 5000 Named Top 50 Historical Sports Site

The so-called "world's fastest 5K" landed at No. 47 in a new ranking of San Diego County's top sports sites of the past and present.

Normally, big races bring out the nerves in the runners. But the Carlsbad 5000 is different; There, it's the old world records that should be afraid.

Sixteen world records have been set at the race since its first runners crossed the finish line in 1986, according to U-T San Diego which named the race the No. 47 Historical Sports Site, past and present, in San Diego County.
