The San Marcos Fitness Roundup, a 5K run/walk, 11K trail run and post-race shindig is set for Saturday, April 9, announced In Motion, Inc., the event organizer. Both runs start at 8 a.m. near the Mangrum Track & Soccer Field on the California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) campus, located at 333 S. Twin Oaks Valley Road in San Marcos.

Now in its second year, the San Marcos Fitness Roundup features the San Marcos Community 5K Run/Walk – a relatively flat, 3.1-mile course around the CSUSM campus and surrounding city streets, and the Double Peak Challenge 11K. The Challenge is an approximately seven-mile, mostly-trail run to Double Peak, the highest point in the 230-acre Double Peak Park. Both races finish on the Mangrum Track.

“Runners in the Challenge will be rewarded with breathtaking views of North County, the ocean and mountains,” said Leisha Battles, director of operations at In Motion, Inc. Double Peak’s summit sits 1,644 feet above sea level and is the highest point in the city. “The park is truly one of San Diego County’s greatest natural treasures.”

An awards presentation and post-race shindig complete with live entertainment provided by Cowboy Jack and the North County Cowboys will be held at the Mangrum Track. A portion of the event proceeds will benefit the CSUSM athletic department.

The pre-race registration fees for the San Marcos Community 5K Run/Walk are $25 for adults and $15 for students of all ages and children age 12 and under. Registration fees for the Double Peak Challenge 11K are $35 for adults and $25 for students of all ages and children age 12 and under. Event-day registration fees are an additional $5 for the 5K and an additional $10 for the 1K. Event-day registration starts at 6:30 a.m. Entry to the shindig is free.
