Get Your Name or Company on a Bridge in a Historic Part of North County

In this Letter to the Editor, Dee Folse provides some history on Copper Canyon and explains why is mountain bike group could use your help preserving the natural habitiat.

We have built three bridges in Copper Canyon which is managed by The Center of Natural Land Management, CNLM. Copper Canyon is named after the three , now closed, copper mines that were mined by German immigrants around the turn of the 19th century.

They actually played an important part in WW1 because they produced a lot of copper. Today the mines are played out but the canyon is a great watershed and habitat that provides an unreal corridor for wildlife and fantastic connectivity between Encinitas and San Marcos. It also solidifies connectivity for us mountain bikers who ride to Elfin Forest and destinations to the south.

For years it has been illegal to ride there but now after 6 years of staying on it Copper Canyon is legal and will be incorporated into this year's Archipelago Ride.

SDMBA paid for all the materials to build the bridges and now we are asking for a $25.00 minimum donation to get Your Name, Your Families Name, whatever you want, (well almost whatever you want) routed into the Bridge.

Industry or Company names will be on the East Bridge at $50.00

The bridges are filling up with 80 names and 20 industry corporations so far.

All proceeds will be presented to CNLM and earmarked for our hill to help them continue protecting habitat and pursuing more open space to keep the blade of the next bulldozer at bay.

If you would like to be a part of this project let us know, we will get you on the bridge. Email dee@shoebacca.com or rfj1@cox.net
