LCC Advances in Boys Hoops but Lady Mavs Fall

The boys team wins 81-70 victory over L.A. Washington Prep, but despite 19-for-19 free throw accuracy by Jen Dumiak, the girls' season is over.

The free throws were dropping for the La Costa Canyon boys and girls basketball teams Tuesday night in the CIF Southern California Regional doubleheader. With a 12-for-12 performance in the final quarter, plus three players scoring at least 20 points each, the boys won 81-70 over Los Angeles Washington Prep.

But the girls team failed to take advantage of a perfect 19-for-19 night at the charity stripe for Jen Dumiak, who had 33 points overall in a 68-65 loss to Rancho Cucamonga. The Lady Mavs (28-4) saw a 20-game winning streak come to an end despite hitting 25 of 28 free throws.

The La Costa Canyon boys advance to Thursday's semifinals where they'll travel to third-seeded Taft (28-2), an 83-45 winner over Clovis West.
