LCC Edges El Camino with Late TD; Oceanside Routs Lancers

Sesti's TD pass with 1:27 left gives Mavs another league title; Gulley runs for four TDs in Pirates' 37-0 win.

La Costa Canyon High scored with 1:27 remaining to pull out a 17-14 win over El Camino and defend its Avocado West League title. The sixth-ranked Mavericks (7-2, 4-0) have won six in a row.

LCC quarterback Jake Sesti spearheaded an 18-play, 80-yard drive that took more than seven minutes and was capped by a 14-yard scoring pass to Corbin DeWaalan.

Micah Sua scored on a 1-yard run as host El Camino (4-5, 1-2) held a 7-3 lead after the opening quarter and at intermission. Deon Dickey's score from a yard out midway through the third quarter put the Mavs back on top 10-7, but the Wildcats countered with a 15-yard TD pass from Josef Ferrick to Toe Amu with 9:18 remaining for a 14-10 advantage.

La Costa Canyon hosts Torrey Pines in a nonleague regular-season finale on Friday, while El Camino is at crosstown rival Oceanside.

Oceanside 37, Carlsbad 0

The No. 8-ranked Pirates took advantage of five Carlsbad turnovers to dominate the Avocado West League game.

Oceanside (6-2-1, 2-1) held the Lancers (5-4, 1-2) to under 100 yards in total offense and just four first downs, all in the first half.

William Gulley ran for 150 yards and four touchdowns for the Pirates, who fell on three Lancer fumbles and interceoted two passes. Daniel Cedillo returned one of those for a 50-yard score.

Army-Navy 26, Calvin Christian 6

Army-Navy Academy won its third in a row to remain in the hunt for a Pacific League championship as Mike Lupque scored three touchdowns.

The Warriors (4-5, 3-1) are a game behind Tri-City Christian, the team they host on Friday.
