LCC Girls Run by San Diego for Div. I Hoops Crown

Jen Dumiak has 28 points and Madisen Irwin 21 as the Mavs win their second title in three years.

Domination on the boards and at the free-throw line produced a surprisingly easy 76-41 victory for the La Costa Canyon girls basketball team over San Diego High on Saturday, giving the Lady Mavericks the CIF San Diego Section Division I championship.

It was the second title and 18th straight win for the top-seeded LCC girls, who won in 2009 but were eliminated last year by San Diego in the semifinals.

Madisen Irwin poured in 21 points and cleared 18 rebounds for the Mavs, who led 17-14 after the first period but pulled away in the second with an 8-0 run that helped build a 40-24 halftime advantage. A 9-0 run near the end of the third quarter had LCC ahead 60-30.
