LCC Reaches Semis in Boys Hoops, Girls Soccer

But Carlsbad is eliminated from the girls soccer tournament in a 1-0 loss to Mission Hills.

La Costa Canyon High advanced to the semifinal round of the CIF San Diego Section boys basketball and girls soccer tournaments on Saturday, but Carlsbad High's girls soccer team was eliminated with a 1-0 loss to Mission Hills.

The Mavericks were 69-57 winners over Vista High in the Division I boys hoops tourney, with Matt Shrigley and Drew Kitchens each scoring 20 points for LCC and David Travers adding 18. A 22-point second quarter lifted the Mavs from a 14-13 deficit after one period to a 35-26 halftime lead.

Vista ends the season at 20-10, while La Costa Canyon improves to 25-4. The top-seeded Mavs will host El Camino on Wednesday. The Wildcats beat fourth-seeded Otay Ranch 69-50 to advance.

GIRLS SOCCER

La Costa Canyon shut out Point Loma 2-0 behind goals by Lindsay Olsen  and Brianna Martinez . Emily Jones recorded the shutout with just one save.

LCC, the second seed in Division II, is now 14-3-3 and will host third-seeded Hilltop at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the semis. Hilltop (15-3-4) edged Bonita Vista 1-0.

Carlsbad, the fourth seed in Division I, finished the season at 10-4-5. Denise Ponce's second-half goal was the game's only score. The Lancers had the advantage in shots on goal but couldn't get one past the Mission Hills defense.
