Lions Baseball: Swart Pitches LCC Past Grossmont

The Maverick lefty who tossed a perfect game last week allows just three runners to reach in a 12-1 Lions Tournament win.

La Costa Canyon High's Trent Swart, a hard-throwing southpaw who pitched a perfect game against Oceanside last Wednesday, didn't have the late-inning drama in a 12-1 victory Tuesday against Grossmont in a Lions Tournament Classic Division game on the Foothillers' field.

Grossmont leadoff hitter Robby Nesovic smacked Swart's first pitch in the bottom of the first over the fence in right. But it was one of the few mistakes made by Swart, who will attend Duke this fall. He struck out 15 as he had done in his gem last week. He is 5-0 on the season with an ERA under 0.50.

Catcher Matt Hall went 3-for-5 with three runs batted in for LCC (15-3), which scored  nine runs over the first four innings. Jason Curtis had a solo homer for the Mavs. Nesovic also had a single for Grossmont (11-5), the only other hit off Swart.
