McAllister Steps Down as Lancers Football Coach

Carlsbad High teams went 133-61-6 and won three CIF titles in 17 seasons with 'Mac' calling signals.

Bob McAllister has stepped down as Carlsbad High head football coach after 17 seasons at the Lancers' helm.

"I've given this a lot of thought lately,'' McAllister told the North County Times. "I've been involved in coaching for the last 35 years now, and it's time to do something different."

McAllister, 56, said he will retain his teaching position at and may continue to work with the football program in some capacity.

The Lancers went 133-61-6 under McAllister over the past 17 years, including a 6-6 mark in 2010 when the new on-campus stadium was opened. McAllister's teams won three CIF San Diego Section championships and six Avocado League crowns.

"Replacing a legend like Mac is not going to be easy," said Carlsbad High athletic director Chris Greene. "I hope we can find someone who wants to carry on what he started.''
