Forget Yoga Mats – These Yogis Float on Water

Carlsbad residents Sarah Freeman and Marci Kawar started Floating Yogis last August and were the first to bring Standup Paddleboard (SUP) Yoga to North County.

"It's not just another local business," Freeman said. "My heartfelt intention was to bring people together to connect and create a peaceful sense of community. So far, that's exactly what we have done, one pose at a time."

Floating Yogis meets at 4700 Bayshore Drive at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon in Carlsbad. It offers seven classes a week, with the newest class meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays for Sunset SUP Yoga.

"All levels are welcome," Kawar said. "You go as far as you can. The idea is to stay on the board."

Carlsbad resident Amy Hand, who has tried the sunset class only a couple times, told Carlsbad Patch it was the best yoga class she'd ever taken.

Watch the video above to see the class in action and to hear Kawar explain how students connect with nature while practicing yoga.
