Record-Breaking Year at Carlsbad 5000 5K Race [Photos]

Congratulations to 24-year-old Dejen Gebremeskel of Ethiopia for his fourth win at the Carlsbad 5000 5K road race on Sunday. He finished first in 13:13, but it was American Bernard Lagat that really turned up the heat Sunday morning. Lagat broke an American 5K road record with his second place finish.

Lagat's time of 13:19 breaks Marc Davis’ longstanding American record of 13:24, set in 1996, according to Competitor.com.
