Sage Creek's Freshman Cross Country Team Compete at Varsity Level Qualify for CIF Championshipos

This past Saturday the Sage Creek Freshman finished third at the Division 5 CIF Championships and will advance to the State Championship in Fresno. Two of them placed in the top 10.

Sage Creek High School in Carlsbad has only Freshman, so Tommy Gamelin the school's Athletic Director did not anticipate any varsity athletics for at least a couple of years.

"After our initial time trials in the fall, my cross country coach was really excited in August about the possibility of our team qualifying for the CIF Championships. Being a baseball/football guy, I smiled gave him a "that sounds great", and did not think that much of it. I put him in touch with Dennis Mclanahan to make sure they raced in the required 5 Varsity meets," said Gamelin in an email to Carlsbad Patch.

This past Saturday the Sage Creek Freshman finished third at the Division 5 CIF Championships and will advance to the State Championship in Fresno. Two of them placed in the top ten. They will be traveling to Fresno, as the first Varsity Athletes in the school's history, the first CIF competitors, and First State Championship participants!
