San Diego Reporter Nearly Run Over During Aztecs Live Shot Says Young Driver Didn't Even See Him

With more than a million hits, the YouTube video of 10News Sports Director Ben Higgins almost getting run over while live on air has gone viral.

It's a crazy sight to watch. 10New's Ben Higgins is in Tucson covering the Aztecs' March Madness basketball game when a SUV starts reversing right toward him and the camera person.

At the last second the camera person pushes Higgins aside, slaps the vehicle and it stops. Higgins, the pro reporter he is, even finishes his sentence off screen.

Carlsbad Patch emailed Higgins, asking if he ever found out why the driver completely missed an entire live shot set up? He emailed back, saying, “I never really found out. I didn't talk to him until two days later. He was just a young kid (19 or 20 maybe) who someone had asked to drive a few people around in a media shuttle, but said he had never even driven an SUV before. Guess he didn't know they have mirrors!”

Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident caught on tape.
