Students Say CEF's Summer Academy is 'Really Fun'

This summer, students from around the (CUSD) are designing video games, creating websites, making rockets, studying digital photography, performing on stage, learning floral design, and cooking up a storm as part of the . Classes are held at . Tuition proceeds benefit the Foundation’s many programs that support CUSD schools and students.

Recently, fifth-grader Lucy Muller created a website about her pet guinea pig. GuineaAmazing features an inviting home page, easy navigation, photos, and a YouTube style video of her guinea pig enjoying an afternoon snack. Lucy described the class as a “really fun” part of her summer vacation.

Students from across the District said they love cooking their family’s favorite recipes from their native Philippines, France, and Korea at home. Here in the Kids’ Café class one afternoon, they were preparing a different ethnic food: salsa. Meilin Vincente quipped, “Technically, all food in America is American. Restaurants alter ethnic dishes to suit Americans.”

Laurenne Oliver noted, “I like what we’re doing here because we’re not just cooking; we’re learning how to run a restaurant.”
