  1. Don’t yank on the cord to unplug an appliance. Hold onto the plug itself.

  2. Never play with electrical cords, light sockets or outlets.

  3. If you see a broken electrical cord, tell an adult.

  4. Always turn off the lights before you leave the house or go to bed.

  5. Do not rest clothing, toys or other items on top of electrical devices such as lamps or computers.

  6. Keep electrically charged toys and other items away from water.

  7. If you drop an electrical device in water, don’t try to get it. Instead, notify an adult who can safely retrieve the item.

  8. Steer clear of power lines when playing outside, especially when flying a kite or playing catch with friends.

  9. Memorize your family’s fire-escape plan for your home.
