Butterfly Project Memorializes Children Who Died in the Holocaust

Holocaust survivors and Congressman Filner join local children in "Peace, Tolerance & Butterflies."

Kids for Peace a Carlsbad-based nonprofit, is hosting “Peace, Tolerance & Butterflies,” a special program which will honor San Diego Holocaust survivors and memorialize the 1.5 million children who died in the Holocaust. Inspired by the fourth line of their Peace Pledge, “I pledge to respect people in each and every land,” children will learn about the Holocaust and gain a deeper appreciation for the importance of respecting all people.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Leichtag Family Foundation and in partnership with the “Butterfly Project” of the San Diego Jewish Academy, “Peace, Tolerance & Butterflies” is an educational, intergenerational, hands-on project that serves to teach children to remember the past, act responsibly in the present and create a more peaceful future.

Honored guests include San Diego Holocaust survivors and Congressman Bob Filner. Together with the children, they will paint ceramic butterflies as a symbol of renewed life.
