Carlsbad Eagle Scout Candidate Raises Thousands in Toffee Sales

Jace Hansen of Carlsbad Troop 732 used the money to build a patron walkway connecting two patios at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation's Discovery Center and donated $2,000 left over to the Lagoon.

Jace Hansen hoped to sell enough toffee to raise $3,000 for his Eagle Scout project. He ended up raising almost $7,000.

Thanks to donations from Scripps Encinitas and the Carlsbad Optimist Club, Hansen was to able to not only buid the walkway he set out to build, but also donate back more than $2,000 to the .

More than 80 volunteers put in 180 hours to help Hansen complete his project at the lagoon.

Hansen currently has 39 Merit Badges, although he only needed 21 to qualify for the Eagle Scout badge.

Hansen will go before the Eagle Scout review board within the next two months to find out if he will be giving the the Boy Scouts of America highest award. 

When Hansen is not working on becoming an Eagle Scout, he plays tennis and runs cross country. He will be a sophomore this year at .
