Not Your Normal Senior Graduation

Seniors graduate high school each year but senior citizens also have a yearly graduation in Carlsbad.

The 2011 class is the largest group of graduates in the 's 15-year history.

On Feb. 14, a graduation ceremony was held for the newest members of the Senior Volunteer Patrol at the station. 

Mayor Pro Tem Ann Kulchin told the group she was "so proud of them." Councilmember Keith Blackburn who used to be in charge of the Senior Patrol when he was a Carlsbad Police officer told the crowd, "thank you, congrats and I hope you enjoy this job as much as I did."

Chief Gary Morrison welcomed the 13 newest members into the "family" and said, "police work is exciting...you are going to see that." He added jokingly, " just to warn you, we'll use and abuse you. DUI checkpoints are cold in the winter."

Senior Patrol Lieutenants Jerry Clements and Mike Whaley presented the badges. The two started the patrol and continue to be leaders in it.

The 2011 Graduates are:

Dan Bucci, Carol Harrison, Dariene Karinen, Carl Kloss, Jackie Labeaune, Rick Langrand, Mickey McKinley, Ruth Milam, Loren Sanders, Theresa Silva, Jackie White, Jeff Wilgus and Steve Wirkus.
