PANCAKE BREAKFAST AND CARNIVAL 

  • What's Up: Paul Ecke Central PTA will host a Pancake Breakfast and Carnival. Breakfast will include firefighter-flipped pancakes, syrup, sausage, drinks and more. The Carnival will feature games, food, activities, cake decorating contest, student art and live performances. 
  • When: 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 11. 
  • Where: Paul Ecke Central Elementary, 185 Union St, Encinitas.
  • Price: $5-$6.

CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL

  • What's Up: San Diego Botanic Garden will host Chocolate Festival featuring chocolate things chocolate. The event will include demonstrations, kids activities, tastings, vendors and more. 
  • When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 11.
  • Where: San Diego Botanic Garden, 230 Quail Gardens Dr, Encinitas.
  • Price: $6-$12.

FAMILY OPEN STUDIOS AND LION DANCE PERFORMANCE

  • What's Up: Family Open Studios will feature a hands-on workshop for kids and families. In conjunction with the exhibit "Vanishing Traditions: Textiles and Treasures from Southwest China," the library will host a traditional Chinese lion dance performance.
  • When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 11. 
  • Where: Dove Library, 1775 Dove Ln, Carlsbad. 
  • Price: Free. 

OCEANSIDE HERITAGE DAY FUNDRAISER AND SUMMER CAMP KICK OFF 

  • What's Up: Oceanside Heritage Day will celebrate Oceanside's past, present and future. The fundraiser will include performances, live music, food and more. Proceeds will benefit Friends of Oceanside Parks. 
  • When: Noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 11. 
  • Where: Heritage Park, 220 Peyri Dr, Oceanside.
  • Price: $5 Adults;$1 Kids. 

THE FLOWER FIELDS FINAL DAY AND MOTHER'S DAY CELEBRATION

  • What's Up: Here's your last chance to visit The Flower Fields. Bring your mom, enjoy the flowers and celebrate Mother's Day.
  • When: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 12.
  • Where: The Flower Fields At Carlsbad Ranch, 5600 Avenida Encinas, Carlsbad.
  • Price: $6-$11. 
  • Also note the conditions at The Flower Fields as of 5/9/13: The flowers are now in poor bloom and the ranunculus are nearing the end of their lifecycle. The themed gardens and artist gardens are still in good bloom.
