This Saturday and Sunday Attend the Carlsbad Cycling Weekend

The weekend event features the inaugural Carlsbad Grand Prix on Sunday with bike races throughout the day.

Just a couple sunny days from now the Carlsbad Cycling Weekend, presented by Hoehn Motors of Carlsbad, arrives! Featured on the second day of the event is the inaugural Carlsbad Grand Prix, with exciting bike races throughout the day, from 7 AM to 5 PM.  Make sure to come check out the thrilling, high-speed races, Sunday, September 8th, on Armada Drive near the Museum of Making Music, and LEGOLAND. Spectating at the race and admission to the expo are FREE.     

Sunday’s events feature fast, technical criterium cycling races for every category from Junior and Master’s level racers to top-level professional cyclists.  The marquis events of the day will be the Pro/Category 1 Women's race, at 1:00followed by the Men's Pro/1-2 race 1:55, with some of the best racers in the United States competing for big money.  

Carlsbad Grand Prix is a high-speed bike race that takes place on a .9 mile circuit overlooking the blue Pacific and scenic Carlsbad.  Groups of 20-100 ambitious cyclists, depending on the category, will race around the oval course, at speeds of 25-35 miles/hour repeatedly for from 30 - 90 minutes (depending on the category) until the lightning fast sprint on the final lap.  The race announcers will be Olympic gold medalist Steve Hegg and the ever glib Chris Evertsen, providing color commentary.  The final sprint to the finish line will be faster than 40 miles/hour and an unforgettable experience. 

Also come out to enjoy the Health and Fitness Expo with live music all day with live music hosted by the Museum of Making Music.  There will be food and entertainment.
