Library’s Summer Reading Program Offers Fun for All Ages

It’s not too late to join the fun during the final weeks of Carlsbad City Library’s annual Summer Reading Program. Summer reading programs foster a lifelong love of reading and help kids keep their reading skills strong over the summer break. And the program is fun, with reading incentives and entertainment for all ages.

How does it work? Parents of babies and toddlers receive a log to track reading activities. Complete the activities in your log and receive a special prize. Kids and teens can sign up for the program at any of the three Carlsbad City Library locations. Read whatever you’d like and then come to the library and report on what you’ve read to a volunteer. You can earn up to two prizes per week, while supplies last. Adults are also invited to participate. Read or listen to a book and then fill out a review card. Turn in your review for a chance to win a $20 Barnes & Noble gift card in a weekly drawing.

This year’s theme is “Reading is so Delicious” and delicious fun includes a family movie night on July 24 featuring “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” and a July 30 performances by Wild Wonders, a wildlife education organization that will explore the gourmet trends of animals.

Programs just for teens include the Anime and Cosplay Showcase on July 25. Know a teen interested in showing off their talent? We’re looking for talented teens for our dancing talent show on July 25 and general talent show on Aug. 8. Audience members of all ages are invited to cheer them on at the free performances.

The program wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of our Friends of the Carlsbad Library, as well as Carlsbad businesses including Cinepolis, LEGOLAND California, Daphne’s California Greek and many more.
