Junior Seau Faced Personal-Injury Lawsuit When He Committed Suicide

Witness to 2010 SUV plunge off Carlsbad cliff sought $256,000 from Chargers great in April.

Updated at 5:30 p.m. May 17, 2012 Six days before killing himself, Junior Seau was being represented in a downtown San Diego courtroom by an attorney fending off a personal-injury lawsuit. According to court documents, Murray Lea sought $256,000 from Seau as compensatory damages in connection with Seau’s 2010 SUV plunge off a Carlsbad cliff. Lea says he was close enough to the car he could have grabbed the door handle, but injured himself jumping away. He listed a San Marcos address in the lawsuit, but now says he is homeless—living out of a van on Coast Highway and fearing for his life as a result of publicity about the case. “I’m suing a dead legend for a quarter-million dollars,” Lea noted Thursday afternoon from his car. But he insists…

This has been a tragic tragic death and loss for this community and the entire city of San Diego. It's a great loss to his family especially his children who …   more ›

Poll: Should Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase Go to Jail for $2 Billion Loss?

Chairman/CEO of one of the nation’s biggest banks is under fire by investors, faces FBI probe.

When a bank is robbed, the FBI swoops in.  When a major bank loses $2 billion, other agencies take the lead. But in the case of Jamie Dimon and JPMorgan Chase, the FBI is investigating there as well in the wake of its stunning loss, which has triggered investor lawsuits. Bank regulation remains a contentious issue, but what about criminal liability?  Should CEO and Chairman of the Board Dimon be brought up on charges?  Should he and other bank executives face jail terms?

Typical! Firth basically gets a slap on the wrist and may yet end up in a classroom again! Another blatant example of the teacher's union backing up "one of their own" and the kids be damned! A 15 year sentence gets neogtiated down to three??? And how can John Roach and the Carlsbad Union School District Board of Trustees sleep at night knowing they supported such a pro-Firth plea bargain? Where …   more ›

Junior Seau's Home Burglarized Days After His Death

Oceanside police said a $500 bike was stolen from the home.

The eatery bearing the name of the late Chargers star Junior Seau ceased operations Wednesday. Seau died two weeks ago from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest in a spare bedroom of his Oceanside beachfront house. He was laid to rest on Friday, hours before a public memorial drew thousands of mourning fans to Qualcomm Stadium. A group of trustees of his estate made the decision to close Seau's The Restaurant, which opened in 1996. "The trustees made their decision to honor Seau's legacy and preserve the memories of the excitement, fun and warmth that were the hallmarks of the restaurant during the famed linebacker's lifetime," said Bette Hoffman, a trustee, former director of the Junior Seau Foundation and ex-vice president of Seau…

No One Knows WHY and may never know WHY but at least there are memories of Junior. I do empathize with the workers with not having notice of their employment ending so abrubtly. Maybe they could make the Restaurant into a Mini Museum with all of his memrobalia or something. At least the people of San Diego would not feel such a total loss.   more ›

Celebrate National Nursing Home Week

The 2012 National Nursing Home Week has a theme of “Celebrating the Journey” as a way to pay tribute to the staff, families and residents of our nations nursing homes.

I have the amazing opportunity to work with a 78-year-old woman named Mary. She has resided in a local San Diego nursing home where they care for her 24/7 since suffering from a stroke that left her paralyzed and with limited speech. Each week I walk into her nursing home and I see fresh flowers, smiling faces, and a clean living environment. I know the staff, nurses, doctors and administrators work very hard to make the residents feel at home and maintain their standard of living. As I was leaving last week I noticed a poster that was announcing May 13-19 as National Nursing Home Week (NNHW) and the theme of “Celebrating the Journey.” NNHW is sponsored by the American Health Care Association and is designed to spotlight the residents and …
