The City of Carlsbad Fire Department is known among the firefighting world as being one of the best. It's an all-riskMore fire department providing fire, rescue, EMS and EMS transport. The Fire Department also has a Fire Prevention Division which makes sure buildings are up to code and does public education. The Fire Department has 1 truck, 5 engines, 3 medic units, 2 brush rigs, 1 command vehicle and 6 fire stations. 

The department has an emergency preparedness program and volunteer Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Fire Chief Kevin Crawford oversees the Carlsbad Fire Department.

South Carlsbad State Beach

Whether you want to spend a day at the beach or a week in a tent, South Carlsbad State beach has something to offer. TheMore beach includes Ponto Beach and a campground overlooking the ocean. At the north end of the beach there is a paid parking lot, restrooms and showers. Free street parking is also available, but spaces are limited. Visitors can enjoy sand volleyball, surfing, swimming with lifeguard supervision and fishing off of a jetty. Alcohol, dogs, fires and camping are not permitted on the beach. Campground visitors enjoy 220 campsites and amenities, including clean restrooms, showers, a laundry facility and a store to buy supplies. Dogs are permitted with leashes.

Pollos Maria is a Mexican restaurant just blocks from the beach in downtown Carlsbad. Its menu is full of MexicanMore favorites, such as tacos, burritos, tamales and more. The atmosphere is very comfortable and the patio offers fire pits for visitors to eat around. Customers can order take-out online or by phone.
